Default Fuel Efficient 77' F150

Is it possible to turn a 1977 f150 into a more fuel efficient truck? I live in a city so 9mpg is horrible for me. I love the 351 engine but I just need something more fuel efficient. I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what I can do or point me in the right direction if you've done it already. Thanks in advance!

Maybe not but you need to put much more detailed information about your truck. Odometer, rear end info, transmission info, tire size, maitenance done, etc.

Sell it, and buy a more-efficient vehicle. Fuel economy was not really a consideration in the '77 design. You could spend thousands putting a more-efficient (MUCH-newer) engine/transmission/PCM into the truck, but you'd have to drive it for 50 years to have a chance at earning back the conversion cost in fuel savings. And gasoline vehicles probably won't be legal that long.

I have a '77 4x4, 351M - NP435, and 3.50 gears, unless you swap in a Coyote with a 6 speed or 10sp auto and change the gears, you're stuck with bad gas mileage. They did not design these trucks with economy in mind, and what you would pay to do that would cost you more than the gas you'd spend in it over several years.
