front and rear gear

i have a 84 4x4 right now with a 3.00 front and rear. the rear is bad. would it be ok to put a 3.25 gear in the back? and would it be ok in 4x4? thank you

Axle ratio needs to be identical in both axles to use 4x4. You can put the new gears in the rear if you are desperate for an axle that works, but never engage 4x4 if you have different ratios.
