Pretty much where I started with replace, rebuild, short block, and rebuild myself. While I'd love to learn how to rebuild myself, I need to get this thing up and running asap and have none of the tools required for rebuilding.

Its hard to go on this the engine needs to be looked over well first. If its ok for 5k you could easily have a 500 hp big block

I'm an IT guy and a master of Google for my job when I know what I need to find. Issue is I don't know what I'm looking for as engines to me may as well be a different language. I hear 4 bolt, 5 bolt, short block, long block, etc, etc, and it's unknown territory; so yes, if suggesting a different engine, then I would appreciate links to what will fit in my truck without sacrificing power.

Summit racing would be probably the best place to start. Basically you have the bottom end (block oil pan timing components rotating assembly aka crankshaft connecting rods and pistons camshaft). Then you have the top end cylinder heads or valvetrain (intake and exhast valves lifters push rods rockers and valve springs) then you have intake manifold and carb. Whereever you have metal touching or riding on metal you need bearings. On the pistons you need piston rings that allow oil on the cylinder walls but not pass into the combustion chamber. That's a simple example of a motor and its components. If you want to rebuild pull the motor and take it to a machineist. If its not rebuildable then you've already got the motor out and ready for a crate motor

Keeping the engine and having someone machine it out. Really don't want to part with the one I have.
