Default F150 300 carb inline 6 shuts off while driving

hey,
im new to the forum and to trucks. I picked up a 1986 f150 carb inline 6. I have been trying to figure the thing out. It shuts off on me every once and a while. Before it used to be while i was idiling and at a stop. But just recently it shuts off while im drivining on road/hwy. Has anyone ever dealt with the truck doing that? Does anyone know how to fix it? Btw, thank you in advance for those who could help out. My name is alfredo and i look forward to hearing any feedback.
Blessings,
alfredo

When the engine shuts off does it start back up right away?

Not without knowing a LOT more about the truck & its history (including maintenance). The more we know, the more likely we can help. Click this, read the caption, and fill in your signature:

Hmmm.... Sounds like you might have a coil for distributor going bad. Is it down on power?

Check your camshaft sensors. Maybe you hit one of them by accident. Mine was doing that. Connector was loose..... hot glue fixed it..

Don't believe an 86, 4.9 has one.

This may be difficult to diagnose since it restarts again. If it sputters before dying, look at fuel. Electrical / ignition will make it stop instantly. Does sound like an issue with the TFI module or the pick up coil in the distributor. Both have a history of problems.

...and after A YEAR & A HALF, it's probably either fixed, or crushed.

Replace the control module, they usually fail about 175k, you can get them on Amazon for about $30.00 Good luck.
