Why did Ford back in the 70's change the F100 to F150?

Change in GVW?

pretty sure it had to with a slight change in hauling capacity from a 1/2 ton to a 5/8 ton.... trucks with 1/2 capacity or less were subject to emissions standards and had to use unleaded fuel...
