Default Explorer 'package?'

Ok, so I am new the the f150's (just bought mine a few days ago) and I am lacking some knowledge. I have an 85 XLT Lariat with the "Explorer" trim/package and I can't seem to get any solid info on it. All I can figure out is that each year the package was different than the year before, it was only offered for a limited time each year, and they discontinued it in 85 or 86 because Ford was coming out with the Explorer model that we are all familiar with now. Does anyone know, or can point me in the direction I need to go to figure out what I have? Thanks for the info.

Never really understood that. I have often seen a truck that is an FX4 or Lariat, but will be branded as XLT on the side. How can a truck be both? I always thought it had to be one trim level, or the other.
