Default Engine wiring harness.

I just picked up a 1985 F150 XL 351W 4x4. This will be a slow restoration. I want to replace the engine wiring harness. Too many splices, bare and melted wires. Looks like spaghetti that’s been sitting in the sun. Do you have a recommendation on a brand?

probably have one of 2 options

1. try to find a doner truck with a decent harness,

2. get a universal one from Painless and wire it up

The painless ones are generally not painless
Ford is the only source I would use
They were over a thousand bucks from Ford (back when you could get them)
Did a few burn jobs at the dealer back in the day
Most people opt to repair the harness they have
You should be able to find a decent harness to start with
They are just about ALL different even if the truck looks identical

I could easily find you 5 harnesses in an hour at the junkyard I visit
None you find are going to be perfect
