here what i have its a 84 f150 4x4. monster c6 trans (rated to 500hp) with stall about 2200. 410 gears. not a daily driver so mpg is not a worry. here i what i have been pondering . 331.347.408. i not a fan of stock motors. its more of a toy.


331 pretty reliable
347. heard rings go bad.
408 i dont know much about.

Hard to turn down extra displacement. Being an F-150 I would recommend a stroked 351W to 408. The 331/347 seems to be real heavy with the Mustang crowd cause of higher revving power, but for a truck I would prefer torque especially since the 408 can have a really broad torque curve depending on how you build it. Not knocking the 460 and it's raw power that it can make, the 460 is just heavy and proper springs and such would need to be in order to put one in an F-150. Just my two cents though!

I would say that you're somewhat limited by the bolt pattern of the transmission; which motors can it be bolted up to ?
That would maybe be where to start.
