Darn plastic
I'm new to this forum, and am an 80+ yr old codger, I recently picked up a bullnose '85 XLT Lariat, which had been a farm truck, having spent years outside the sun bleached the interior pretty substantially. The truck looks pretty good on the outside, and is very solid with no structural rust. It is also pretty obvious that maintenance was done only when something broke down, and then fixed with whatever was at hand. My main issue right now is with a filter housing/ fuel reservoir located on the left frame rail by drivers door. It,s leaking gasoline. Btw, truck is single tank, mounted aft of the rear axle, on left side. The part # is E5TA- 9K004, which is discontinued. This contraption is also known as a swirl pot. The '85-86 had 4 nipples- feed tank to reservoir- return reservoir to tank and feed from reservoir to mechanical fuel pump- return fuel pump to reservoir. I found out you just can't by pass this contraption as it also regulates pressure( low on tank side and high on engine side. Now dual tank contraptions do exist and can be had for about $100. My question- has anyone on here used a dual tank swirl pot, sealing off the nipple ports for the second tank ? Would like to hear any comments. Thanks. Ps wil post pics of truck shortly.
