Default complete rear end

I joined a long time ago & come back occasionally. I have a 1985 F-150 Explorer F150 1/2 ton PU & the rear end is slowly going out. The rear end is a code 19 Ford 8.8 3800 3.55 1983-1986 Explorer
My question is will a code18 Ford 8.8 3800 3.08 1983-1986 work without any hook up problems?

Thanks in advance, if any extra info is needed, just ask me

Thanks Okie

How exactly is it "slowly going out"?

The 8.8" appeared in these F150s/Broncos in '83, and didn't change until '87 when the hub stickouts got large enough to make the wheels hubcentric. So that's still compatible if your wheels fit over the stickouts. It changed again ~'91 when the d'shaft connection changed from a yoke (U-bolted directly to the U-joint caps) to a companion flange (which is easy to install on your original d'shaft). So with the appropriate wheels & flange swap, it's a bolt-in up to '96.

Changing the ratio will affect how the truck accelerates, and its top speed. It will also affect speedometer/odometer accuracy. If the truck is 4WD, mismatched gears between the axles will cause problems when using 4WD.

This caption explains how to collect & organize ALL the truck's details to put into your signature:

If you're going to all the trouble of swapping the rear axle, consider upgrading to factory rear disks, as the captions in this photo album explain:
