carb problem maybe??
So I was riding home tonight from my gf's house when my truck just died as I was gearing down to come up to a red light. Then she would not start. I literally pumped the gas and cranked and cranked and after a couple minutes with my foot to the floor she finally started. Next red light same thing even with me coasting in neutral to the stop. It won't run without me holding the gas and when its running its spittin and sputtering and running like crap. And it will not even try to start without my foot to the floor. Does anybody know what the problem could be? Motor is i6 with carter yfa carb
I had a VERY similar issue with my 84 F150 with the 4.9 6cyl. I did a basic tune up and ran some "sea foam" through the tank and it runs fine now. A little rich but still strong. So I would try that first, its a lot less time consuming and a lot less stressful than a carb rebuild!
Well I did a tune up last night as well as replaced the intake and exhaust gasket because it needed it. Replaced the carb mount gasket and fuel filter and now she starts up and runs fine. The only problem is now its spark knocking like an sob and smoking around the manifold. I know I got the manifold on there and tight so now I'm stumped.
