It all depends on what you have. A. 80s 150 with a 8.8 rear and 44 front. You will go through u joints like crazy and probably break the rear gear. Steering system wont hold up.
For me i want a 3/4-1ton set up. Dana 60s. You may get by with upgrading a 50 for the front.
Lift wise i can do 33s on my 86 stock. Id say a 8" lift minimum. Best way to do that is straight axle front, then spring and shackle lift it. A short wheel base will still probly eaut ujoints. There is just so many things that WILL fail its not smart unless you do a full build. You will kill your tranny, transfer, probably clutch if you run a stick. You will have no power or speed and crappy mileage unless you change your ratios.
If you dont want the hassle just do a 4" and 35s with upgraded brakes.
