Annoying issue
OK so I'm fairly new and learning but it seems everyone I've asked is stumped. When you shut the door of our old 85 the lock rod falls and it locks every time. How do I fix this? I realize I could rig it to not do that but I'd rather just fix it correctly.
When did this symptom appear? What happened to the door right before that? Start by cleaning the latch. It's easier to get it clean after removing it from the door, but only use the correct Phillips #3 bit after applying penetrating oil ONLY to the inside ends of the screws through the latch jaws.

Soaking it in kerosene, deodorized mineral spirits, or naphtha for a day or so, followed by a tooth or bore brush should free up the mechanisms to work right.
