Question Alternator plug replacement - can each wire be removed from the plug?

Found this white/black broken wire on the alternator by chance. It's the bottom plug with the 2 larger black/orange wires. Diagram shows it going to electric choke(?).
Not enough slack to splice it so planning on replacing plug. Can the wire retainers be removed from these plugs and slid into the new plug or is it a solid unit? Prefer to make one splice over three.

No, I don't recommend attempting to repair that. That's the notoriously-dangerous 2G alternator. Your best move is to swap to the 3G, which is cheap, easy, safe, & common. This shows the swap in an older Ford, but it's still just this simple:

Unless or until you are having electrical issues, leave it alone until you can get proper connector, and just cut and splice it on. They make them for most vehicles. Check Auto Zone, O'Reillys or your favorite auto parts store. Just tell them you need a connector or "pigtail" for your model of truck and alternator. I don't know where you might find JUST the plastic part of the alternator plug. They DO make a tool for taking those wires out of the connectors. I have a set I bought online. But a quality tool store may have them or can order them. IN my experience, it's easier to do the pigtail repair.

First truck I ever purchased was an 87 F150 w/4.9L 6cyl. I had sold it to a neighbor for his kid to drive. He kept it for 2 years and never drove it. I bought it back and then found out he had swapped the 1G alternator with a 3G style. Only problem was that he could never get the alternator to charge the battery. I had to replace the battery and many other small items. Finally I went through it and fixed everything but I am stuck with the green/red wire.

am not sure what to do with that. Is there a way to excite the alternator without going back to the dash. Wires are old and I hate to disturb the dusty harnesses. Otherwise, I am just going to by a one wire alternator.

Cool Fixed

Found a fix for the 3G alternator. Look up Quck Start on web. I purchased a F974SE module for my 3G alternator. Removed the old module and installed the new one. (Very easy , used toothpick to hold brushes in.)
Has two wires, white to spade connector, red to POS terminal and no LG/red anymore. Absolutely a great fix. Now my alternator is self exciting and puts out 14vDC on start. No minimum RPM and no special wiring crap. Just basic simple wiring and your done!

Old guy who runs the website and makes the product is fun to talk to. He knows tons of stuff. Absolutely a down home scientist on Alternators. Highly recommended. https://store.alternatorparts.com/se...794SE&search=1

That pic shows a VERY-POORLY-EXECUTED voltage regulator modification, which isn't necessary, and won't improve anything. A quality normal voltage regulator (with 1 more wire that's already on the truck anyway) will outperform & outlast that one.

Email trashed my notifications for this thread so just now seeing the replies. I've used various pin extractors on military gear and was hoping there was something similar, but with a weatherproof plug it was a no-go; I bought a pigtail and used a waterproof splice and it's good now. Didn't know this 2G alt was an issue or may have gone with the 3G upgrade. If the chipmunks are still active I'll end up doing that anyway. They've already chewed into the nylon gas line, and the evap canister hoses on a Honda.
