86 f150 emission troubles.
Hey all,
This one has me scratching my nogan again. I purchased this one with virtually no exhaust to speak of and knew it was gonna take some work. It initially blew over 6k on the hydrocarbons, and just over 9 on CO. I had a new exhaust system installed ( converter, muffler, pipes etc...), and swapped out the fuel pressure regulatot (yes, it's injected). Adjusted idle down a bit ( was pretty high). Checked timing and compression, and that air filter was clean. All this brought the HC down to around 1100, and CO to right at 5. Passing HC is 400, and passing CO is 4 ( or there abouts.). Anyone have any idea what else I could try in order to get this thing compliant? The thing runs great, and is strong as a mule.

I assume you have a 302 as that was the only EFI model in 85-86.
Have you tried pulling codes? If you don't know how then look at my web site below.
About Idle speed - How did you change that? I thought the idle speed is computer controlled and can't be changed?

Yes it it, but there is also a physical screw on the throttle body which limits how far closed it will go. So in other words as you run the screw "in" it would physically "open" the throttle a bit. Which is why it was idling so high. Just backed the screw off till the computer took over the idle.
Hope I explained that well enough.
P.s. Yes, a 302.
