82 F150 bogs down upon accelerating
I bought an 82 F150 extended cab for my son, it has a 302 engine, 67000 miles, with a 4 bbl Edelbrock carb. When we first bought it we took it to a local guy to have the carb cleaned and tuned, he replaced the plug wires and plugs, replaced vacuum lines, just did a general go-through of the truck and got it running great. After a couple of weeks, the engine started bogging down after running it for a minute. It idles fine, but when you take off, after about half a minute, it starts bogging down like its got no power. I took it back to the same mechanic, supposed to be the best guy around, but he has let the truck sit for 6 weeks, when I stop and talk to him he says he's just been swamped with work. I know for a fact he has moved other vehicles in front of us. I've had enough, but don't know another mechanic to take it to. I thought I might go bring it home tomorrow and see if I could take care of it myself, and here I am asking for help. I'm pretty handy but don't know much about these trucks. I'm thinking fuel pump or filter, but don't know how to check fuel pressure. Could anyone give me an idea what to check and how to check it?
harbor freight has an inexpensive pressure gauge. you just pull off the fuel line from the carb and stick it on the end of gauge then turn the engine over.

has a troubleshooting guide near the end i believe
if he opened the carb up he could have done the floats incorrectly or they could be sticking

I have an 1982 f-150 with the 302 also. I spent all last summer going through mine. Did you change the fuel filter attached to the front of the carb?. I bought a vacuum gauge from oreily auto parts for $24.00.Attaches to your vacuum on the front of the carb, you need to adjust the fuel air mix till you get 15 to 17 inches of vacuum. Once you do that and if it is still boggy it sounds like a vacuum leak under load or the carb is messed up maybe?. Best of luck.Come back with the fix that would be cool.
I bought the 95 F150 only a few months before and did not know last tune up ect. Knew prob. time and had plugs, wires, fuel filter AND cleaner in gas done at same time. Truck ran ok B4 but bogged down like when hitting accelerator hard to get on Interstate. Did not know how much pick up this old truck could have. Wow. Hot little engine with no hesitation now. Did upgrade plugs and plug wires and am glad I did. Good Luck. Love my old putt putt and it is now daily driver. Jimmy C
