my uncle just purchased a 77 f-150 short bed 4x4 and it has dual gas tanks ,one behind the seat and the other in the bed .is this common cause all the other ones i've seen are both in the bed!?

whats a highboy, and i like the idea of the gastank behind the seat, at least the pump should be easier to change, and the tank won't rust too bad

That was fairly common. It was for folks who lived way out in the country, It is rare to find one that both tanks actually work.
