I have a 1985 f150 shortbed/stepside that it currently a 2wd truck (it is a 5.8l carbureted engine) but i am looking into doing the 4wd conversion. Would i be able to just slap a transfer case on the current transmision or would i meed to replace the transmission with another?

 

Do you have a downer 4wd truck to pull from?

There are a couple threads started by miataman where he did just what you are talking about. Might check them out.

 

No ill be buying the oarts new or rebuilt

 

theres an adapter that you will need specific to the transmission/tcase, you will need to find out if you will need a new output shaft from the transmission. if you do, it may be easier to pull a whole tranny/tcase unit from a donor.
