2 barrel carb adjustment
Hello: I have a 1982 F-150 2 barrel carb,I had been laboring under the impression that my carb had sealed adjustments but on closer look i see it does have adjustment screws left and right/passenger and driver side of carb.
My question is: Do i screw gently all the way in and then 2 and 1/2 turns out ward or?. Does any one know what the adjustment is to a leaner adjustment. Failed emissions on being too rich. I just want to lean it out a little bit. any help i thank you

the farther out the screw is the richer it will run...set the carb to base adjustment which turn the screws all the way in till they bottom out then out 1.5 turns...then start truck and when its warmed up tune the carb like this..one side at a time turn out the adjustment screw until you find the highest idle then back in .25-.5 a turn...repeat on each side...if it still is running too rich then lean it out some more but you need to get to a good baseline first

It can be a pain to learn but its very easy to tune a carb by ear. Just like he said, start about 1-1/2 out and back 1 out til idle stumbles. Then in a bit and do the other. Repeat a couple times.

I found a very use full carb adjustment tool.It keeps you out of the hot air stream from the fan and radiator. Its $16.00 advanced auto, probably at most auto parts stores. It is made by Auto craft. Sorry i tried to up load a picture of it i have but it didn't up load to this posts?. Any way it is about 18 inches long so you can stand out front ouut of the hot air stream. Beats the crap of hanging under the hood slipping off the adjustment screw.
