Default 1986 starting problems

Been trying to get this thing right for awhile and today it wouldn't start.
I jumped it earlier and it started then drove it work and after work
it started again. I sat at home for awhile and it wouldn't start and wouldn't jump.
I took the batter to Autozone and it was good as I suspected then I got some
started fluid to try and get it home and it started and then caught fire around
the intake. I have narrowed the problem down to the fuel pump I know it has
the 2 in the tank and the one out I only use the rear pump though because the
front one isnt hooked up. I think the best thing to do is to replace both the pumps
and the fuel filter and be done with it right.... I just want to get it done and
done right and if one is going bad the other may not be that far behind so I
may just replace both. Does this sound about right? Oh yeah I have a new starter,
alternator, battery and cables, plugs also....

Lets slow down, does it have fuel to the rail? Does it have spark to the plugs. Assuming the engine cranks over normally.

If you thought it was the battery why, slow cranking, needing a jump all the time. If these are your conditions the starter might be on its way out.
