Hello, i have a 1980 f250 long bed and the tailgate needs new cables, The problem is I don't have a way to check since it doesnt have any at the moment. Could i use any cable from any ford truck from any year or does it need to be specific to mine, and if it does need to be specific could someone tell me the specs that i need to look out for please.

 

My 83 has linkage and not cables. The old 92 had cables. You may be in quest of the mechanical linkage and not cables.

You may need to source that from a junk yard.
