Hello, I am new here, I recently bought my first vehicle, a 1980 F150 Ranger. I have been searching throughout the internet and have not been able to identify my engine yet! Also my father and grandfather are also not able to identify the engine yet either. The 4th digit of the 11-digit VIN is a G, which gives me a 351, or a 5.8 V8. But I am unsure of whether it is a 351w or a 351m.
Anyways, I came here to see if you guys could help me in identifying it. So here are the images! Sorry for the poor photos, I’m currently very busy and can’t do much in the way of cleaning it up right now. In a few weeks I can probably get better photos.
Take a close up photo of the valve cover
Also see if the sticker is still on the drivers side valve cover
That sticker, in fine print will say 351M or just 351
The valve cover for a Cleveland head is what you are looking to see if it's a M
Also, the M has vertical fuel pump bolts where the Windsor has horizontal fuel pump bolts
Either way, enjoy the truck
Thank you so much Manicmechanic007!
Like I said, I am very busy right now, and as you can probably tell from the photos, the valve covers are covered in oil, but when I get the time to clean the engine bay I will definitely check that out!
And thank you once more, I do intend to have fun with it!
