Default 1968 Ford F-100 Project

Hello,

Greetings everyone. I am new to this so I apologize if there is a particular thread on this subject. Well I am about to purchase a 1968 Ford F-100, No motor or transmission. It's going to need quite a bit of under the hood work. My father had one when I was younger and I am taking on the challenge of rebuilding one now. I have never rebuilt a vehicle but have helped out my father on occasion. Those days are long past and I'm trying to get back into the mechanic role. I came here for some advice on what kind of Engine/Trans/Parts I am going to need to get started. I don't know too much about the engine/engines for the 68' and which one would be closest to the original. I'm not to worried about getting it back to historical accuracy just as long as I can drive it around and use it for basic work loads. Any advice or information that will help me get started would be much appreciated. I am anxious to get started on restoring this nostalgic truck. Look forward to hearing what you all have to say.

All the best,

Forrest R

Those came with an inline 6 cyl, and 302 and 390 V8s. I put a 351 in my '70. I knew a guy who put a 460 in a '69. I think trans options were 3 and 4 speed manuals, and c4 or c6 automatics. Not 100% sure on the auto's

Autos were FM/CM, C4 and C6. FM/CM are the Ford-O-Matic/Cruse-O-Matic transmissions. I would go with a 302 with a C6 if I were going automatic. But that is just me.

Hope this helps
