Windshield Part Numbers
Anyone have any luck with windshield replacement options? BRAND new 2022 and the first road trip I got 3 rock chips and the 3rd one split the whole windshield. What in the world did they make this glass out of? Called several local shops and they had a hard time locating the right glass as my VIN is not bringing anything up. Part number on the glass is ML34-1503100-BG. I'm guessing that the 1503100 is a pretty generic part number and the ML34 is a generation, or has something to do with safety features. An OEM Ford parts site DID load my VIN correctly and gave me a part number of 1503100 - which showed glass for $370.
All my shops quote $800-1200. Safelite said $600 + $400 to recalibrate the sensors (which even my dealer said was not necessary). I went to Safelite as $600 seems not terrible. They said recalibration was now required in 2022 and that they also have a $40 disposal fee. So all in with tax, they're now $1120.
I seriously cannot buy a $1K windshield every trip...
Anyone know for sure that there are options out there? Seems to be a real problem as four shops all said there are too many options and pricing is all over the place.

Safelite wouldnt do the glass install and then only do the camera recal if needed? Thats how I have always had Safelite do it. Everytime my wifes Kia needs a new windshield they tell me what it could cost if camera recal is needed, and it has never been needed.
Right, they said it's their policy (apparently nationwide now) that since December 2021, any car with ADAS requires install + a $400 "recalibration". My own Ford dealer said it's incredibly rare that the ADAS on the F150 needs calibration. Seems as if Safelight has been active in legislation in a number of states mandating that calibration is now a required part of a windshield service regardless if the vehicle requires it or not.
FWIW I did stop by my local Ford dealer (they're a massive dealer, but sub out all their glass). They were able to pull up my vin and see the exact part number. The number on the glass is an engineering number and only they have the ability to crosswalk the engineering numbers to actual part numbers. So the engineering number I listed in my post actually correlates to ML3Z-1503100-B, which was then superseded by ML3Z1503100F. The glass itself is $411 from Ford (and is at least in stock). Carlex has not published their equivalents yet, so that there is the rub.
So I think the price is $450 part, $200 install, $250 calibration - that's where most quotes are coming in at $900 +/-. I've had two quotes come in at $1150 and $1200 respectively.
So note to self...watch out for rocks!
