Default Will the battery be able to be upgraded?

Full disclosure, this is my first truck! Also my first brand new vehicle. Very excited. Also will be the first vehicle to dive into modding.

The batteries undergo intense stress testing and engineering, so I’m not super keen on replacing it. however, it would be incredible to be able to add additional power packs for extended range on the hybrid’s very short abilities while in the slow electric drive mode. I’ve read it will let you drive a few miles at slower speeds.

Does anyone know if this might be a possibility?

No. Buy the electric one when it comes out.

That would be the logical and smart thing to do.

But from following this forum, I would not bet a buck that someone would not fill the bed with batteries, and make the world's fastest hybrid.

If they can make a 1400 HP electric Mustang, they can mod a Hybrid. It just takes money and determination.

Precisely. Given the opportunity with the current payload room, if be happier than ever to be able to throw in some salvaged batteries from a FEV into a secure bed box to get as many miles and power as possible.

I’m actually stunned the batteries are so small. I get they’re waiting to launch the full electric but they could have quadrupled the current size and completely destroyed competition in and outside comparable competition. Even a tiny 50 mile range on full electric would have changed everything.

Ford is not shooting for mpg's, which the 2.7 and 3.5 already have nailed in, or range, which comes with the 35gal tank. They are not shooting for a hybrid killer, there are plenty of cars that will always whoops a full size truck's *** in that aspect. What they are aiming for is literally in the name... a power boost... when you need that extra torque for acceleration, or that extra power for tools.

The truck you are looking for is the upcoming all electric. That will be the one people will be modding for range and/or 1/4 mile times.

The PB is only a 1.5kW system.

Unless Ford is pissing money into the wind, they will design the entire hybrid system to be as efficient as possible. That means only as big of a battery as needed, only as big (heavy) inverter as needed, and the assist motor only as big as needed. This keeps weight down and efficiency up.

The assist motor is integrated into the 10AT, so good luck modding that. The power controller is very most likely designed just for the 1.5kW battery, so putting more battery into the truck won't do anything other than MAYBE extend time run on EV only, but most likely the power controller won't like a different battery being connected.

The PB hybrid system is not going to be where you find extra power on this truck. Tuning the 3.5TT is where all of the easy extra power will be.

Just because someone made a 1400HP EV Mustang has nothing to do with a mild hybrid F-150. The people responsible for a 1400HP Mustang could do the same thing to ANY F-150....rip everything out and build a full-EV.

People thinking of modifying the battery systems on these vehicles need to make sure that they understand the risks involved in modifying these systems, including (but not limited to) stored energy, the risk of damage during crash due to not properly protecting the batteries like the manufacturer did, and the risk of thermal runaway. Lithium batteries are quite dangerous. When working on these battery systems, the proper protective equipment and procedures is essential. https://www.repairerdrivennews.com/2...electric-cars/

I would imagine that Ford will be waiting to void any warranty on these, based on modifications. Will be interesting to see!

I would hope so!

But I've seen many forum members accept that as the price for power.

I remember one guy saying "If you want to play, you have to be willing to pay". Referring to the monster supercharger he just installed while in warranty.

I would be very surprised if that does not follow thru into the Hybrid.

Someone like this guy from our forum, LOL.

been evaluating my current situation with my f150 and I have decided to take my 4 door to the next level.. At one point I was gonna sell the truck and go back to a sports car. I quickly scrapped that idea as i need a truck.. Instead I decided to build a 9 second supercrew.. I will update this thread as parts arrive and i start the build... I'm shooting for a solid 1000rwhp or so. I wasn't feeling comfy pushing 800rwhp on the stock engine, so here we are. .. stay tuned fellas
