When to do first oil change?

How much does that analysis cost? And the trouble to package it up and mail it?
I think I would just put that money towards another oil change. But that is just me.
I am in the every 5k club and have no problem using MC semi synthetic. My situation is a little different in that the 5k interval is basically once per year. Doesn't get much cheaper or easier than that.

Lots of weirdos on this forum. Spend tens of thousands of dollars to buy their shiny new trucks but spending $75 every 3k-5k miles to change your oil is "wasting money." Make it make sense. 🤣😂😂😂

I'm not a huge fan of it other than the bonus glove box space, but the manual is built into the head unit of the truck. All the info you need is "at your fingertips".

I am on a lot of forums and this stuff comes up all the time
there’s the mileage guys, the amsoil guys, the full synthetic the semi synthetic, the filter guys, the soap analysis guys and on and on. Oh, and don’t forget the ZDDP guys and the Chinese flat tappet guys and the roller guys, the overhead cam guys, the turbo guys, the forged internals guys and the ARP cap bolts guys, the pro street guys, the classic car guys, the towing guys, the hauling guys, the tow/hauling guys, the Arizona guys, the Arctic Circle guys and the timing slip guys and the fleet manager guys and don’t forget Bob is the Oil Guy guys etc…
it’s good to reach out for information and advice.
Take it for what it’s worth and in this thread there are some good bits of information.
The way I look at it, it’s a machine, it needs maintenance
Start with the manufacturer’s recommendations and go from there.
In the OP’s case, low utilization can sometimes be worse. As someone pointed out oil temp needs to go up for enough time to boil off any moisture. That is actually one of the purposes of the temp gauge, not just to tell you coolant temp, but tell you the temp is sufficient to boil off the water in the oil.
I never just cold start the thing and move it 10 feet in the driveway to move the garbage cans. If I start it, I alway warm it up even to the point of driving it a couple of miles to warm everything up before I park it. Also, warming up the truck a bit before slamming the gas pedal goes a long way in engine protection. Better so, I think, than sending the oil in for analysis is good driving habits
Also, oil absorbs combustion products that are acidic and accumulate over time and operation, I don’t care if you use oil made from unicorn spit, you need to change it at least once a year and anywhere from 5-10,000 miles.
I use the 5-10,000 thing so I can do the oil change at my convenience not because of the urging of the electro-nanny
I have read a lot of these threads everywhere and I laugh at the super duper oil, filter and spectrometric analysis guys.
Its not that complicated. I mean, unless you are running some sort of a Rousch supercharged 700 HP motor.
Then you are running with the big dogs and need all the help you can get to p_e in the tall grass.

Your first one should've been done before you picked it up at the dealer. Just to make them do it.
Honestly if I had the choice I'd rather change the oil every 500 miles than put gas in it.

this my 3rd 5.0 and I will say this, change it at 5k the cam phasers will thank you. not sure on the 3.5 but it has phasers as well. first truck 2016 5.0 changed at 7.5k intervals didnt have any issues till over 100k miles.
2019 5.0 changed when OLM said to. had cam phaser issues starting around 30k miles. by the time I reached 100k it was being repaired. New 2023 first change at 5k. next at 10k gonna stick with 5k intervals. Pennzoil platinum 5w30.

I can change my own oil for less than 40 bucks. I realize not everyone does that but it is a task I don't mind doing at all.

@wrench650 , great list! You got a chuckle out of me. Amsoil is my favorite and gets a huge eye roll from me every time… the Mary Kay sales model for men who love oil…
