Default When to do the 1st engine oil change?

My truck is 2021 XLT 302A with 2.7L engine. I bought it in July from dealer. Now I have driven the truck for about 4500 miles, mostly on highways and without towing and loading. I am a little confused about when to do the first engine oil change. The dealer staff told me I should change the oil every 5000miles if use synthetic oil or every 7500miles if use full synthetic oil. The vehicle manual says to change the oil 7500 to 10000 miles if drive in normal conditions. My Ford pass app shows I still have 56% of oil life. I am a little confused now. Please advise when I should go to do the first oil change. Thanks.

What does your pocket book say? I personally change oil and filter every 5K on my vehicles.

Change the oil whenever you want, or when the oil lights comes on.

It is suggested that turbo motors should be changed around 5,000 miles, regardless of full or partial.

Don't believe us because it's hard to find 2 people that will agree with the oil type and mileage and we'll end up telling each other "my way is the best and everybody else is dumb".

I have decided never to pay for full synthetic as I'm not going to keep a vehicle until the motor falls out of it. I am not going to spend the extra $60 a year for somebody elses longevity. My local Ford shop chargers $55 and $89 for the change.
I'm not going to change oil myself and save the money and get "piece of mind and therapy". I've done that enough in years past.

So yeah, have it changed or change it and use whatever oil makes you happy, synthetic blended oils or full synthetic oils. If you can promise yourself that this is the last truck you buy for many many years, you could be a candidate for full synthetic.

You seem to drive a lot. Sticking with the 5000 mile scenario, it is to your advantage, financially, to use the synthetic blended. Meaning it's not suggested to run turbo motors for longer miles so you won't really see the mileage benefit of full synthetic oil. The goal for Ford motors is to keep oil clean because the timing components like clean oil. The turbo motor is more prone to fuel dilution which is why earlier change intervals are desirable.
I wouldn't sweat an exact mileage distance of course but good to stick with a pretty routine schedule. I have to go my months, not miles.

Thanks for bringing us a new oil thread. It's been several weeks since we've had this 'talk'.

There are multiple theories regarding the recommendations.
Some say Ford tells the customer they can go 10,000 miles between changes 'in normal conditions, because it is appealing to the owner to pretty have a vehicle that costs them $80 a year in maintenance. Or will believe that the motors are efficient, oils are superior than many years ago and the technology to read the oil status is accurate and believable that the light is safe to use as a guide.
You get to believe whatever you want. I am okay with 7,000 mile changes on a non turbo motor if I drive enough, however I barely drive that much a year and I feel that a year of oil isn't fantastic for longevity based on changes in climate throughout the year.

Change it now and every 5000 miles but I changed my oil at 3500 miles the first time, get yourself a FordPass Visa card and you should build up enough points where the oil change at 5009 miles won’t cost you anything. Note a dealer oil change including rotating your tires checking all fluids is about $60 bucks without points on your FordPass.

Everyone knows ya gotta change the 'break-in oil' @ around 3,000 miles...
;-)

I don't drive a lot of miles so I tend to change oil around 4500 miles or so on my vehicles...even the ones using synthetic. Gives me a nice supply of used oil to keep weeds out of the fence-line, works really well when mixed with oil well brine.

Ignore dealer. Their goal is to empty your wallet.

Follow the manual - https://www.f150forum.com/f118/when-...mation-372751/

Also, the advice regarding getting the FordPass Visa needs some economic analysis. That card is a poor value as compared to a 2% Cashback card.

5% back in points on dealership purchases3% back on gas, auto insurance, tolls, parking and dining1% back everything else
A point is worth 1/2 cent.

Because the card is so bad, they will give you a $200 statement credit after you spend $6,000 in a year. That's 3.3%. Some will hit that, some won't. Of course if you spend a lot more, you don't get any more money, so the effective percentage drops.

In comparison, the Chase Sapphire Preferred will give you 100,000 points if you spend $4,000 in 3 months, plus $50 on groceries. Spend those points on travel, and they are worth $1,250.

The FordPass Visa is for the unknowledgeable credit card user.

I'll help stir the pot. In the 06, F-150, Sm V8 I ran Amsoil Full synthetic and there filter, changed yearly or 24,000 miles. Eight years later with about 200k on the clock it was running fine. You know, bigger RV = more truck. (Ram 2500 CTD) Our new F-150 went through the local oil change Wednesday with 4700 miles and decided on Valvoline Maxlife semi synthetic and whatever filter they screwed on. I believe I will see them every 5,000 miles or so.
