What is under this hatch?
In front of my gear selector, there is a cavity for the gear selector to fold down into (even though I do not have the worktop sliding console. In this cavity is a small rubber pad, similar to those in most storage pockets and cup holders. Under this rubber pad is a latch and what appears to be a small (playing card sized) access panel. I cannot get it open. Any idea what is under there or where it accesses? No, I did not see it in the Owners' Manual, yes I checked there first.

Underneath that little hatch is the key to understanding the female mind.
…or it’s just a bolt.
He’s very specific about the access port being where the shifter folders into. So that’s not the key fob hole under the cup holder, which will allow you to start the car with a dead key fob battery.
Makes me wonder where the emergency shifter release is located.
No I haven’t looked at the owners manual.
