Default Trailer camera system not working

I installed to Ford OEM accessory trailer camera system in my enclosed utility trailer. I have a 2021 F150 with synch 4 and the truck will not recognize the TPMS or camera. One dealership told me that I need a SW update in the truck. Anyone try to install this kit run into a similar problem.

thanks

Check the back side of the plug on your truck. If you only have 2 wires coming out it will not work.

Who keeps a pug in the truck? I don't think I'd want any wires coming out of my pug.

mine had 2 wires. I thought it was the CAN buss wires, Hi and Lo.

The 7 way plug is the trailer wires on the top. Trailer assist or camera on the bottom. The installation instructions said to replace the 2 plug combo with the new one in the kit, but they were the same part number.

First, your truck must have the 360-degree cam package for the Ford Accessory Trailer Cam to work (you don't mention having that option in your OP).

When you only see 2 wires (violet/brown and white/blue) on the 12-pin connector those are for the Yaw Rate Sensor.

Yours is the common situation where the harness from the chassis connector above the spare tire is not complete to the connector on the back of the 12-pin socket at the bumper. There's nothing wrong with the Ford Accessory Kit or the 7/12-pin socket you have in your bumper, the shortcoming is the chassis harness in your truck. Nope, I've no idea why Ford delivered many Gen 14 F150s that way, but it is what it is.

See this thread for the solution: https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/thre...s-system.4989/

It's a long but worthwhile read, IMO the most definitive thread on this topic, providing examples of successful solutions for all of the Gen 14 F150 situations. Note that in addition to the 'missing wires' some Gen 14 F150 builds also lack proper module programming to support the Trailer TPMS / cam; there's a solution for that through FORScan re-programming, also described in the linked thread.

I have personally swapped out a harness with only the 2 wires for the updated one, and the trailer aux camera then does work. Forscan did not need to be used in my case as I could already toggle on my screen for the trailer aux camera. Pg. 10 on the above link gives you the needed info for that harness swap.

reprogramming won’t do anything if you only have 2 wires going to the connector. You need to replace that harness

How much of a PITA was that to do?

I looked into doing this as my truck is a 2-wire truck. All I remember is my eyes glazed over and I said to myself screw it, I’ll just get an aftermarket trailer cam with a monitor on Amazon.

30-60 min, depending on how much dirt is packed around the push clips holding the harness up. Did it on truck at work and just had a flat head screwdriver to pop those clips out. If I had my clip removal tool if would have gone much faster. Write up on the link above is pretty good.
