Default Trailer Brake Controller

My 2022 XLT did not come with the trailer brake controller. I saw on the Ford accessories website that you can purchase it and have it dealer installed. Sorry if this has been discussed before, but has anyone had this done? Thanks in advance.

Hundreds have done it. You can easily plug it in, but to make it work either the dealer needs to update the software (and will likely charge an hour's labor), or you need to use FORScan and update it yourself. Threads explain FORScan (basically hacking software to modify the vehicle).

That would be best as it might require a computer to activate it and also may require select fuses to be installed. Does your vehicle have the 7pin plug?

I think it does. It also came with some kind of wiring harness in the glove box.

It takes a brake controller to tow safely and smoothly. The brake's settings and control buttons are located on a tow controller, allowing the driver to operate it. The electric brake won't work without a brake controller and will only put you and other drivers on the road in danger.
