Default Today I Learned

That if I open the driver's door with my foot on the brake while my '21 XLT is in gear, it shifts itself into Park.

I haven't tested if it does that, or anything similar, under other conditions.

My 2022 doesn't, open the door will not shift to park, but shut off the engine will.

Does it do that if your foot isn't on the brake?

I'll bet it can be disabled with FORScan but I don't have a reason to.

if your seatbelt is on, my 22 does not go to park when I open the door.

Interesting it's not consistent across years, my 23 does it. Rolling at walking speed and open door and bam you're in park. Haven't tried it (and won't be) any faster than that. I learned when driving onto my lift to stop, put it in park then open door, then back to drive and it stays but a hell breaks loose on the dash. Various nanny alarms and messages, I've taken to calling this thing "chicken little".

Yes - that is my BIG question too! Does anyone know what happens when the door is opened, say, at 30 miles per hour? I have been wondering about that process for some time now. I am also too scared to try it...

Ever watch as the truck speeds up and the doors automatically lock.

At 30 mph one has to Unlock the doors to open them.

After have 13 Gen frozen door issues and having to hold the doors closed with bungee straps not recommending anyone to try your scenario.

After 2.5 years of driving a 14 Gen XLT 302a there certainly is enough alarms and warning signals that cause MORE distraction than any good they may have been intended for.

Both 2021 and 2023 owners manuals appear to have the same verbiage so I'd assume they work the same or very similarly.

I will rephrase the question. At what forward, or reverse speed, is it safe the open the door without the truck automatically shifting into Park?
