Default Theft Patrol

My truck is finally at the dealer after ordering at the end of February (yay!!). They sent an updated quote that has two line items I didn't expect: "Appearance Shield" for $499 and "Theft Patrol" also for $499. I don't want either as I'm sure they are just trying to get more money for something way overpriced, but it got me wondering... do 2022s have a built in way of tracking where the vehicle is like in FordPass? Like you can see it's live location? If so, that would seem to make Theft Patrol redundant and basically useless.

Edit: Lariat 502A, SuperCab

Sounds like a scam.

FordPass acts a bit like find my friends on the iPhone - pretty much live but a refresh delay kinda thing. You can also get notifications on any opening being opened on FordPass which helps alert for break ins I guess? I have to admit I got suckered into a theft patrol but, nowhere near that amount but enough at $100… however, my bad, I’m all the excitement I just said what’s another $100. I can tell you from my experience that actually FordPass is miles better at showing vehicle data, location etc… my recommendation would be to push not having it, particularly at that price. Unfortunately I can’t comment on the appearance shield - I’d imagine you can get a better price from a local car detailed and customized to your liking?

Both Appearance Shield and Theft Patrol are nothing more than additional dealer profit. And yes fordpass will tell you where your truck is located.

I tried the FordPass alert on door openings. At home off of Wi-Fi the alerts came through quick. Problem is when working off of cellular the alerts could come up to 15 minutes later. Stopping at a store or restaurant, then getting an alert 15 minutes later had me dashing out to check on my truck. I turned it off.

Thanks! From searching online I figured FordPass would do something like that. Nice to have confirmation that Theft Patrol is useless for these trucks. Very unethical for dealers to even offer it (especially for $500) when the main function of Theft Patrol is already built into the truck and FordPass.

I found the marketing for the appearance shield:
Exterior Protection -A long-lasting diamond ceramic protective coating gives your vehicle unparalleled shine and reflection while the ceramic forms a chemical bond to the surface, providing outstanding protection. Together, they create a stunning, protected finish.
Interior Protection- An eco-friendly protection product with UV inhibitors is professionally applied to your vehicle’s interior leather, vinyl, fabric, and carpet surface.

Seems very not worth $500

Seems to be a device and app that some dealers like to install:
https://theftpatrolplus.com/en/about/

Found an interesting thread about it over on Dodge Ram forums:
