Default Talk me off the ledge

I’m in the process of purchasing a 2024 f150 lariat super crew. Having a hard time deciding between the 5.0 or 3.5 ecoboost. Have test driven both but cannot decide which route to go. Longevity/Reliability is my main focal point. I’ve been a Toyota guy all my life but just can’t get behind the new generation. I purchase trucks and keep them roughly 10 years. What is the best engine choice for my purpose.

5.0 all day long. Get it and don't look back.

Good luck on that one. You will get lots of opinions on that. You also need to give more info on what you want to use it for......?

If you are more old school stay with the 5.0.

Depends on your requirements.

Want better exhaust sound 5.0 hands down.

After that both are solid engine platforms.

3.5EB will give great low end towing power and when not towing and treated right fairly good MPG.

5.0 best exhaust tone and mods are everywhere. 5.0 with 3.73 gearing gives the 5.0 good towing ability and when not towing and treated right fairly good MPG.

Good Luck

You really need to test drive both. Preferably an extended test drive.

That will get you better information for your decision.

Reliability will be a wash as both are good designs.

From what I've been hearing about the turbo failures in the 2024 models.. 5.0 would be it for me.

Yep.
I walk through Ford shops daily. Filled with the Ecoboosts torn down. I will take an informal poll among the engine men this coming week, but I'm betting that the Ecos have a far higher failure rate than the 5.0.

IMO gas mileage is a wash. Unless you're great grandma, you're going to be goosing the Eco more to keep it in the same powerband as the 5.0 just has normally, so there's not going to be a dime's worth of difference there. Now, straight "highway only", you might see some difference, but for mixed driving like 99% of people do, it's a wash. Certainly not enough to even consider it.

To me, the choices are either the 5.0 V8, or the Power Boost hybrid. 3.5EB doesn't give me advantages such as 7.2KW Pro Power On Board. Ford wants buyers to go with the Power Boost, as they discount it to cover the option's cost. The Power Boost will have better fuel economy.

Surely the 5.0 will have the best LT reliability.
