Tailgate stopping after unlatching
Tailgate on my 21 Lariat Hi powerboost is having an issue where it will unlatch, start to lower, and then stop almost immediately. Has anyone run into this or seen this issue? I've included a video of the issue. It happens if I use the button on the tailgate, inside the cab, or the keyfob.
It sticks there. I have been able to pull it past that previously and it will not close with the motor. But this time I am unable to pull it past that point with any amount of force I feel comfortable with
I haven't seen this issue, but I've taken mine apart. I looked at your video. I was expecting to see it do the safety bounce, but that's clearly not what is going on. It looks like the RGTM motor might be binding when it is being closed, then holding that as spring tension and releasing it when you hit the unlatch button.
In other words, I think the actual problem is that it isn't closing properly, but you only see the effects when you hit the open button.
This would be a justified dealer visit, but I would first try uncoupling the RGTM motor any cycling it. Maybe it is out of sync, broken or binding. It's located on the passenger side inside the tailgate. You can get to it by removing the dozen T27 screws that hold the plastic work surface on.
You may want to uncouple the RGTM completely until you get to a service bay, but then again, base warranty will cover this. Do not disconnect the RGTM wiring because it will affect your alarm.
