Default Running Boards setting not saving

I have a 2021 F150 Limited and no matter how many times I set my option for the running boards it always defaults back to Auto. My preference is to keep it to "Out" (and then retracts once over 3 MPH). Otherwise I get out the truck, the boards come out, I close the driver door, walk around to the passenger side and the boards start to fold up, then I open the passenger door to get something out of the truck midway through and the boards come down again, etc. It's quite annoying to me... any ideas? I use the same key every time (just in case it's associated to that)...

Did you set the timer for the boards on retract? You can try a reset by disconnecting the battery for about 30 minutes but you’ll lose all your settings.

I did not, nor do I really want to go that route... :/

Having the same issue on my 2021, I’ve reset the screen, tried multiple times, no luck, thinking it’s a software issue.

Default Same and some

I decided to change my running boards from auto and realized I'm having the same issue. The second I shift into drive it revérts back to auto and about half the time changes my radio presets from 3 pages back to 2. I'm going to cause a stink and get the dealer to look at it this week because after 4 days if having the truck 1 speaker is blown and my rain sensor for the wipers is not working.

So I got my truck back today. My belief of the running boards was
Off - would just not work
Out - would pop them out when you unlock and pull in when you lock. Also when you opened the door they would stay out until you lockedAuto - would pop in and out with unlock/lock and would time in after a door was opened/closed

The dealership has told me after they called someone higher up because they thought the same as me. Turns out that the out setting is if you're working around the truck and need them to stay out while maybe cleaning it etc. When you start driving again they will go right back to auto.

Hope this helps and yes I believe that the setup is dumb
Also they did a factory reset and said it should fix the radio presets issues but we'll see
