Default Running Board vs. Angular Step Plus 501A

When optioning an F-150 Lariat, there are two options for running boards: 6" Extended Chrome Running Boards $1005 and a Chrome Angular Step $780.
What is the functional difference between these two? They both appear to be chrome.

Also, I love how choosing the 501A package on the Lariat Supercab jumps the cost from the listed $1.270 to $2,470 by adding the console buckets. The cost should just be stated as $2,470.

Believe the extended ones run wheel to wheel , where the regular boards stop at the back of the cab.

I would look at just going to 502 instead of 501, plus buckets, plus running boards. It may not be that much more money.

Yeh I was trying to figure this out too. I want the extended board for bed access (XLT). Not available on XL trim.
I cant get extended ones to show up in configurator image.
4 options on Lariat, deployable extended (gray?), short chrome or extended chrome or gray.
I think they used to have the separate step option for bed access now extended option. Makes more sense to me now.

ie:

Honorable mention
: Extended running boards

Look closely at the exterior of the 2021 Ford F-150 and you can see extended running boards that go up further than the previous generation. The available full-length extended power running boards with kick switch provide better truck-side cargo box accessibility.

I’m not ashamed to admit that getting in and out of pickup trucks can be a challenge, so I do appreciate Ford extending the running boards and having them lower when the driver (with key fob) approaches.

From the brochure:

Yeh heres the old 2020 option:

The 502 package is something I am considering. However, I also learned in the last 24 hours through this forum and online research that the PVD chrome finish on those wheels tend to flake off over time. I wish they were polished aluminum like on my 2018 Mustang.

502a for $300.00 sport package you get a 18" gloss black wheel.

A 2021 502a in lead foot, 157" sport package just showed up in the neighbors driveway.

Looks like a very nice combination.

Good Luck.
