23 4x4 Powerboost platinum - 22k miles

As vehicles get more advanced I start to wonder if the recommended service that the dealer gives me is actually needed. On my older trucks I skipped some of the random services that popped up until I had more miles. This last time in they recommended throttle body cleaning? Would you suggest I get it?

In the past the only throttle body cleaning I've done was to the throttle door hinge. If this is what they are doing I think its a waste of cash but wondering if they do more?

Are there other recommended services that you suggest when they pop up?

Follow the owners manual, not the dealership suggestions.

Unlike the guy above, I personally would NOT follow the owners manual. The people that follow the owners manual also think its ok to go 10,000 miles between oil changes since the manual says so. You are going to get a lot of different responses on this question. As part of the throttle body cleaning, im not worried about it. I personally will get a transmission flush ever 50,000 miles and the diff and t case I would do about 100,000 miles. The manual says the diff is recommended to be done at 150,000. I would not go that long even without doing any towing.

Use your common sense. Oil changes at 10k are early death for a Ford. Throttle body? When it needs it.
My brother in law got a call from the Toyota service dept the other day telling him he needed an oil change on his low mileage 24 Tundra. He made an appt even though it had only been a few months and a very few thousand miles since they did it last. I asked him exactly how they knew he needed an oil change. He grinning and shrugged his shoulders…..

Its not that I think its ok to follow the OLM for oil changes, its that the people who designed and built the engine and hold the warranty think that its ok to do so. In fact, the recommend that you do it. Will doing work that is not necessary hurt the vehicle? No. Just your wallet.

I don't follow the owners manual. Sure its more expensive to change fluids more often, but replacing major components is VERY expensive. About 20% of my miles (maybe more) are towing, which is more stressful on lubricants. I'm a little past 50k and axles, center diffs, transfer case, gear box oils have already been changed. Engine oil gets replaced every 5k.

I follow the owners manual for everything except oil changes. I do them on my schedule that I feel comfortable with.

Thanks for all the advice. I live in Texas so there is the heat. Mainly stop and go traffic driving with very little towing.

I change my oil at 25% life left (about 7500 miles) on my truck with a high quality full synthetic oil. I do no to very little towing however.
I put a bottle of good fuel treatment in the fuel tank at every oil change.
Change the air filter every 20k miles.
Change the cabin air filter every year.

My local mechanic recommends this:
Every 30k, change the trans fluid.
Every 60k, change the trans fluid and trans filter.
Every 100k, change the spark plugs, clean the throttle body, change the coolant.
