Default reasonable charge on recall

Took my truck in for all the recall notices, new wiper motor, new wiper arms and check rear wiring. Ford Mechanic said he needs to loosen the rear aftermarket sway bar to check the harness. At first I declined but thought taking the bar off, rescheduling the appt, missing work and reinstalling bar not worth it so I approved the repair. They charged me $65 for 1/2 hour labor to loosen 4 bolts. I requested new wiper blades as the recall stated remove old ones and put them on the new arms - at least wasn't charged for that labor.....
I am not complaining paid the bill, just curious other's thoughts

If they have to spend additional time because of aftermarket add-ons, then they have a right to charge. It doesn't mean the have to.

There is procedure from Ford for situations like this, all the dealership had to do was submit it when they did warranty claim for the recall and they could have got the extra time from Ford.

I hope they didn't "double dip" and charge you AND Ford.

They probably did, Pay for recall work is less than standard rate for the tech, so I hope he got the extra 1/2hr, not just the dealer.

Where in this recall document does it say the rear roll bar needs to be loosened? If nowhere, then call Ford to bitch about dealer's incompetence. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/202...3V509-4247.pdf and get a refund from dealer.

I would let it go since they didn't charge you for the wiper change. In the future, don't pay for anything during a recall repair.

Well it probably doesn't say anything because there isn't a factory rear sway bar (maybe some trims have it but I am not sure)

I can’t imagine way one would need to loosen bolts to check the wire harness recall and I’d bet they didn’t loosen anything.

You were smart to have new blades put on the same time the new arms were installed. I did the same thing at no charge for installation.
When they did the harness recall did they replace the harness or just tape it up as per the recall?
