Default Question on factory build

After you agree on a factory ordered F150 what should happen? I mean what documents does the dealership give you? What if anything gets sent to you from Ford? I signed a custom order back on January 20th 2022 and have only received a factory order number. F523. I never received a custom build sheet or anything from Ford or the dealership.

This thread would be a good read.

It sounds like you already have your order code.

Most of us receive an order preview from our dealer after an order (referenced in that thread with a snapshot of what the top of one looks like), that will show all of the items ordered. Many of us refer to this order preview as a “DORA”. My opinion is this document is very important to have because without it, you have no idea if the dealer actually checked all the right boxes. There could be interpretation differences, human error etc. That document will show exactly what was ordered and what was not. My dealer made 2 mistakes and I would have never caught it if I didn’t have a copy of the DORA. Here is a copy of mine with the top and bottom cut off, just to give you an idea of what it looks like. The top will have your name, order code, priority code and other info. The bottom will have pricing.

After your dealer placed your order, you should get an email from Ford. Many people never get this email for whatever reason. I made positively sure my dealer had my correct email address and made it clear not to mess it up when they entered it in. I have been lucky in that I have received all my emails from Ford.

After that you should get a scheduled for production email with a VIN, and so on. It’s essentially a waiting game at that point.

Since you never received the very first email, chances are the dealer got it wrong, didn’t enter it at all, or you have a spam filter snagging them. That also means you could be scheduled by now and have a VIN even. Your dealer will know if they look at the visibility report on their system.

Might be either one, or both, no nobody.

Ford's communication is inconsistent at best, zero at typical, there's really just now way to know when you are getting ghosted if there's actually stuff happening, or not.

But, your dealer is probably a better bet than Ford. Ford won't tell you jack **** IME, even when there is stuff to tell and you chat it, nobody there has a damn clue what's going on. Or at least, the ones who do, are not customer facing and don't have any systems in place to inform those who are customer facing

Ford. I’ll show you what the email looks like, hang on.

Edit: Like blkZ28spt said, your dealer can get you the info as well but the automated info/email comes from Ford if things were setup correctly and things are working as they should.

This is what the very first email should look like after your dealer placed the order in the system.

This is what the second (important) email should look like. I received mine a couple weeks after the first email, but keep in mind how fast and when you get emails varies widely. When you click on “track my order” it takes you to the tracking page that will show you your VIN.

If you can get your hands on your VIN, you can manually enter in your VIN and order code into the tracking site and get to the same spot that link in the email gets you.

So I had to call Ford directly as my dealer just kept saying it was sent in and just be patient and wait. Ford was able to tell me my production date which is April 4th 2022. Ford was way more helpful them my dealer.

Awesome.

Yeah that sucks about your dealer. Usually you will run into that when you have a sales guy that doesn’t want to bother the sales manager to look things up.. or really any number of reasons. They certainly have the ability to get the same info.

Did you get your VIN from Ford then? If you have that, you can track things yourself pretty easy.

no VIN yet. Will that be issued once the build starts April 4th or does it get issued before?

If you have a production date, you have a VIN. Can’t have one without the other.
