Default Question on Exercising 4wd System

I’ve posted earlier that I was hearing what I thought was front bearing noise, a light vrrrrrr when slowing below about 30mph. The IWEs all work as designed. An older friend of mine who used to run an auto repair shop, said I should engage the front end and exercise the 4wd system and see what happens. So I put my pickup in 4auto and ran about 30 miles, with a few times within and out of 4H to exercise the transfer case. When I got back to town, and in 2WD I couldn’t hear the noise any longer.

could it be the front end just needed exercising of the drive components?

thanks

I was told to do the same so on all of the 4x4's I've owned, I'd do the exercise for about 30 seconds every month or so, all on a very straight road with 4H activated then deactivated.

I try to remember to hit 4-Hi every time I get on gravel or dirt.

The only fix Ford has come up with for IWE repair in 4A trans. if to pull the vacuum lines and cap them so the front axles are always locked to the hubs.
