Do the PVD Chrome Wheels from the 2021 and up trucks peel around the edges like the 2015-2020 trucks do? I'm going to be buying tires for my 2015 F150 and the wheels are peeling sort of bad, so I am considering buying a set of take offs from a newer truck, but I'm curious if the wheels have the same peeling issues.

 

Not sure if peeling is the same as chipping. I brought my 2021 sport package wheels (not PVD) to the tire shop and the guy literally exhaled in relief and said, “Oh good, not the chrome ones! Those have been chipping around the edges and owners get so mad at us.”

 

I think the issues are one in the same. The second a tire machine touches the rim they chip. And once they start, they just keep chipping. I haven't noticed it on the newer 21+ trucks, but I'm not sure if they just aren't old enough, or if Ford resolved the issue. It happens on nearly every set of chrome wheels on the 15-20s, especially the 15-17 wheels. And unfortunately for me, I'm a guy who prefers chrome.

 

I have had pvd chrome rims on a number of trucks and I had the wheels of a GT500 I had pvd coated at Detroit Wheel.
