Default programming 3rd key fob

I have a 2023 f150 xlt push button start. I purchased a 3rd fob from cars and truck remotes. I have tried to program the new fob using the 2 originals. Placing one in the cup holder hitting the start button waiting 5 secs then hitting the start button again. placed 2nd fob in there and repeat procedure. place new fob in there and repeat but it doesn't show it programmed. can these be programmed or do you have to go to the dealer? any suggestions are appreciated.

Sounds like you are following the official procedure:
1. Place the first programmed remote in the backup slot inside the cup holder or center console with your foot off the brake pedal, press and release the push button ignition switch.

2. Wait five seconds and then press and release the push button ignition switch again.

3. Remove the remote control.

4. Within 10 seconds, place a second programmed remote control in the backup slot. Press and release the push button ignition switch.

5. Wait five seconds and then press and release the push button ignition switch again. Keep the ignition on for at least three seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.

6. Remove the remote control.

7. Place the unprogrammed remote control in the backup slot and press and release the push button ignition switch.

This worked for me,

Close and lock the doors, and rotate the fobs 180 degrees from how you did it last.

It took a couple of times here when transferring the the 3rd remote from the truck being traded in.

Good luck.

I will try those suggestions. when I contacted the seller they told me that you needed a locksmith or go to the dealer to program.

It took me a few tries, but I was able to do it myself at home.

Related question - once you acquire a 3rd FOB, and succeed in programming it, how do you go about getting the physical key cut? Can a regular old locksmith do that?
What's the best source for an OEM 3rd FOB? Ford? Or are there other reputable sources?

I tried what was suggested, locking the doors and placing the fobs in with the buttons facing the front of the truck. It was successful.
I purchased my fob from cars and truck remotes.com. they say you have to have a dealer or locksmith program. I followed the procedure listed here. the first 2 attempts were unsuccessful but once I closed and locked the doors and placed the fobs with buttons toward the front of the truck it worked first try.
