If using ramps to run my snow blower up a tailgate will 'hurt' it ... I have to seriously rethink the pro access tailgate.
(however, having items within reach did seem like a good idea)

I would recommend checking out how this tailgate works in person. To be honest, I would not load something much above the weight limit posted. Using ramps can put a lot of the weight on the tailgate. And I wouldn’t drive with something heavy on the tailgate. Thats my opinion.

To be honest, I would prefer the standard tailgate with the integrated step. My girlfriend is not very tall. She prefers the door that allows her to reach in and get stuff out of the bed.
You hit the nail on the head. I'm betting Ford will rethink that gate moving forward. They are pushing it hard on the higher trim levels and not offering the standard gate with utility step in 2026 Lariats and above. Just ordered a 2026 and wanted the old man step w/pole but cant be done! Even went as far as to offer ordering with pro gate and trying to get dealer to order same color XLT with Old man tailgate. I was willing to do a lot swap.. Without one of the two gates you don't get the bed lights either!

I don't know, but I weigh much more than 180 and have sat on PAT without any concern. I wonder if that 180 lb limit is for door with tailgate up...maybe messes with hinges and door could get unaligned. According to this link below, the PAT can take on same weight limit as standard tailgate when fully down. Hardly a definitive source but makes sense to me that it would be designed that way. https://www.guideautoweb.com/en/arti...-how-it-works/

I spoke with the F-150 Product Technical Manager for over an hour at The Washington Auto Show in January and asked him that same question. He told me the Pro Access tailgate is good for 800 lb. Weight to load upon. I was on the fence between buying an F150 Lariat or a Denali with the 3.0 Diesel. After spending that hour with him, I bought the Ford.

I asked sales lady this question when I bought my truck. FWIW she said PAT could handle same weight as standard tailgate. Anyways.... I work construction and often haul big wire reals in the bed.... I roll em out on tailgate to drop off the bed. I am sure it is more then 800lbs... no issues yet. 🤞

I’m a contractor and load materials like I did with a previous F150 with a standard tailgate. No issues yet. I did banana a tailgate that was on my F250 before that. Learned my lesson that composite decking is super heavy!
