Default Powerboost Engine Knock at Idle

I just purchased a 2025 f150 powerboost last weekend and love it so far; however I noticed when the ICE kicks in to charge the battery, the 3.5 sounds like it’s got a bit more of a knock than I’m used to hearing. I’m attaching a video but wanted to hear perspectives on if this sounds like normal or if it’s problems already rearing its head. The truck only has 400 miles on it and drives great, just makes me nervous hearing this knock.

Congratulations on your vehicle acquisition. I'm about 200 miles into the ownership of my 2025 Lariat F-150 Powerboost. I'm struggling to take it all in! I do not hear the same knock from my truck/engine that your video captures. I will be curious what you find out. Best of luck and happy new year!

Sounds similar.

My Powerboost is nearly at 100,000 KM with a high amount of idle time (don’t know the exact number but I sleep in it during cross country commutes). If I’m not asleep when it kicks on, I put it in neutral and it immediately subsides.

I don’t believe it’s phaser knock or engine related, I think it is more to do with the torque converter and generator assembly. Really hard to tell from a video though.

My 2021 PowerBoost is my 7th F150 and I’ve dealt with a ton of issues on various model years including cam phasers on a few.

If it bothers you the dealer can put a chassis ear on it, I think it’s fine but it’s really hard to tell from a video.

Put it neutral next time it happens and see if it levels itself out like mine does.
