Default Oil change interval

I’m sure this has been beaten to death …

I get my oil changed at a jiffy lube type place, and i use regular oil. They slap a sticker on the windshield as a reminder to come back in 3,000 miles, i usually go back at 5,000. Truck just turned 31k, we just got back from a long holiday trip and there is 6k on the oil. I was looking at the oil monitor gauge, it shows 45% life remaining so that would put about 10k on it. That seems a bit too much.

Oil life monitor is setup for synthetic, which I'm pretty sure the manual calls for as required. You might be voiding your warranty using regular oil.

I have always gone by the oil life monitor. I had a 2015 with the 2.7 in it make 306K miles before I got rid of it. They want you back a 3K or some places 5K so they can make more money off ya. If I was working on a farm and the truck idles a lot I might change it earlier, but over the road the OLM is what I use.

My last car had an OLM which actively monitored actual usage as well as miles and changed the OCI accordingly. Do 100% highway and you go over 9k. (I didn't), go short trips and 6k was it. Ford's OLM is simply a mileage tracker with no consideration for actual usage. That's not good enough IMHO.

So, I ignore it and go with 5k.

I don't think that is true. Nowhere in the manual does it say full synthetic is required for any of the engine options.

I knew that, that’s why i push it to 5k. Wife’s odyssey has a olm that pops up on the dash at 10% based on about 7500 miles. Funny thing … not really … wife is convinced i don’t know **** and reminds me often. However she is also convinced that the olm is just like a gas gauge, and when it gets to 0% there is no more oil in the engine. I have stopped arguing that one.

Whatever interval you choose finally..............but I would be careful going to "Iffy Lube." My experience some time ago was a loose oil pug leaving a pool on the ground. Another notable was as a cabin air filter replacement on a 2013 F150 that didn't have a cabin air filter (Not my vehicle).

It would have meant more if we knew you owned a 1953 f100 or say a 2024 f150 with whatever engine it has in it ??
My newest vehicles are 2016 f150's (5.0) & a 2021 3.6 grand cherokee .
I'm pretty sure both spec @ least a semi or full synthetic oil changes..........Your Manuel should tell & dictate what to use ??

Between 3000-4000 miles with 5W30 synthetic blend.
