Default nuisance: scratch on steering

200 miles into the XLT 302A high, suddenly noticed there’s a 3” long surface scratch on the leather steering!! I wanted the XLT for i thought it has the durable rubber wheels, but after pick and choosing the 302a, I ended up with leather wrapped steering. And this kind of damage was exactly what I tried to avoid… I don’t wear a ring (inner side of ring is smooth anyway shouldn’t cause scratch), wore gloves twice but also no sharp objects… wtf. Any suggestion on good OEM fit aftermarket steering?

* wheel.

There, I feel better

Just get a new one? Or find a used one from eBay or car-part?

I did this to an old vehicle of mine from wearing my knife inside of my pocket. The clip caught the wheel and scratched it.

Noticed a similar but smaller scratch on my RAM after getting an alignment done. Must have come from a rough zipper on a jacket or something. I was pissed at first cause I could feel it everytime I let the wheel return to center and the interior of my truck is generally well cared for.

Honestly, it was gone within a weeks worth of driving and is neither visible nor perceptible anymore. I know it sucks on a new truck but let it go and see if it's still really worth getting a new wheel after a couple weeks.

sage advice, Sage indeed. I’m actually a leather jacket maker so I’m quite familiar with scratchings on leathers, I know rationally this is no big deal but…. Anyhoo, I bought a pair of racing style wheel cover (not the full circle just two sides). So that should take it off my mind (I can feel the scratch too on my hand).

A good automotive interior shop should be able repair it. Not worth scrapping it and replacing it with another wheel.
