Below happened today, someone must've seen this in the past, what to do? or is this something I can just wait out? last update on ford app was yesterday afternoon, so there is currently no vehicle location, yesterday's odometer etc on ford app. something wrong with the mordern? would an over the air update fix this if I connect to wifi or I need to see dealer.
I had this. 2023 XLT From new in April. It took the dealer tech with a laptop and 3 tries to fix it. Ultimately, they blamed a black box, but the service manual said to access the box and check the wiring before you order the box. After they checked the Ethernet connections, it started working 100%.
The laptop and the service info pointed at the box so they ordered it. I ran around for a couple of weeks and told the dealer to cancel the order because it was working fine.
you should hope it’s the wiring connection not the box, because I doubt you will ever see the box or it will be a long time. When I cancelled the order two weeks after the troubleshooting exercise, they hadn’t even gotten a status update on the order (In layman’s terms? They were never gonna see that unit in my lifetime)
The box is called the TCU, Telematics Control Unit
i think they had to check the Ethernet cable connections at both ends, not sure what the other end connects to. Maybe the screen. I say this because when they were done the dash was disheveled.
i haven’t found a block diagram of all that cr_p in the system let alone a schematic. I have come close to finding it on the internet but I think since it’s model and year specific the odds of random googling resulting in anything useful is remote.
it’s like in Druid and kept under a rock at Stonehenge or somewhere like that.
Speaking of primitive cultures, since the NAV data didn’t work consistently for 2 months of the 3 month free trial, I was very persistent in my endeavors to get Ford to extend my free trial period.
I was successful after multiple trips down Keypad Lane.
They started the 3 month trial over and as a matter of fact it ends here in a week or so.
I will renew it as I actually like the integrated system.
Ford could have done a way better job with it, but I am getting used to mediocrity in my latter years.
as a matter of fact for any youthful readers here, where I come from Digital = Mediocre
They are synonyms in my thesaurus.

Appreciate the details. Mine is a 22 that I picked up new in March this year. It just went back up online this morning so I’ll give her sometime and see. I don’t quite like the connected nav as it once took me to a dirt road parallel to the highway and a few other glitches here and there. I do like the interface though and use it for long road trip from time to time.
i’ve seen a few other discussions claim to disconnect battery for 10 min to force a modern reboot.
funny enough, I work for a telematics company and I believe they are the oem provider for ford. I’m just not sure how much ford relies on that telematic device. I.e. does ford have a separate channel/module for cellular data or they rely on the telematics cellular data. The info shown on ford app is about 1% of what the telematic device can do anyway, but it’s handy.
Hope it works for you. Mine was highly intermittent. That’s why I waited two weeks to cancel the order for the TCU.
if you read through those posts about the battery reset, it was only a temp fix.
I mentioned the lack of transparency on the system architecture because it is my opinion that Ford has no clue how that system works and in my mind it appears as though it was programmed by people who don’t even drive.
