Default Need 4A suggestions

Thinking to buy my first F150. Don’t know if it worth the extra money to upgrade to lariat just for 4A ?
I don’t care about the leather seats and others in Lariat but thinking the 4A might be a very useful feature to have it.
anyone have or had both XLT and Lariat can give some suggestions? Many thanks !
BTW, I live in New Jersey.

It is worth it for me, I'm in southern Ontario. I had a 2013 FX4 that did not have 4A and I found it a pain to manually switch it all the time.

I had an XLT, then got a Lariat (as my sig shows), when I ordered my '21 I got a Lariat again, but while 4A is a big part of the reason it isn't the only reason.

One thing I will throw out there is there are many levels of Lariat. You can get a 500a or 501a Lariat for not much over a 302a XLT, depending on your individual rebates and plan of purchase of course. A Lariat has a higher residual than an XLT, so if leasing, the Lariat may actually work out to be equal or less than a slightly less expensive XLT. If purchasing, you don't really gain much benefit on that front although if the residual estimate holds true, you may do better when you go to sell it, making up for initial higher cost.

I live in MI, so other weather is inconsistent, and that has been a big push for 4A. Many people look at it like 4WD is just something for snow or off-roading, but with the incredible power these trucks put down along with the lighter aluminum bed, you will find that in many situations having 4A is helpful to ensure you can safely do whatever you need to do at the time, even if it's just making a right turn and joining faster traffic without one of your rear tires lifting a bit and spinning. Also if you have 4A, when you go into Sport mode, the truck automatically engages it. I think the 4A usefulness has only grown with the '21s. In my 2019, if I have it in 2WD and go to Sport mode, it stays just 2 High. Since the new dial isn't position dependent, the truck can automatically make those changes without you having to do it.

Anyway, I think it's tough to make the move to Lariat JUST for 4A. I would take a few minutes and review a build guide and see what else a Lariat gets that you MAY be paying extra for on an XLT and not really think about it. For example, the Lariat gets the larger receiver and plug just by being a Lariat, on XLT you need a tow package. So if you only have very rare towing needs, you get some of that benefit without having to add a specific package (which narrows the cost gap). The power sliding rear window was made an option on 302a, so that's an added cost when in the 15-20 MY, the power sliding rear window was included on the 302a, so if that matters to you, that's another added cost. I know you said there isn't much in a Lariat besides 4A, but I think it's a good idea to really dig into the small details. I was looking at going back to an XLT because my two biggest complaints with my '17 XLT was not having keyless entry and auto climate, they fixed that in the '21s, but the more I looked at what I was giving up that I really loved in my '19, the more I saw that another XLT was giving up a wall of features I have come to find very useful (like power folding mirrors, no go there on an XLT).

Again, your interests and needs will vary. There are plenty of XL/STX owners on here that aren't even touching XLT levels of features and LOVE their trucks, they don't care or need the other stuff and that's just as valid as anyone else's choices.

this is absolutely well thought answer!
To me, the new truck will be my commute car, nothing to tow.
I am thinking to get lariat 500A if I want 4A and it’s seems I am more learning towards to it now.
I am entirely happy with any XLT if it come with 4A.

Very well stated vulnox, and mirrors my thinking and process to decide what I wanted to order. (decided on Lariat 501A + all the specific options I wanted).

4A is the reason I got 4wd in my 20 Lariat (14 mos ago). Always had 2wd before that. I've used it many times in wet weather and it really came in handy in the cold spell from hell this past winter. I've never used 4H and used 4L once. 4A is well worth it IMO.
