Mass Air Sensor
This question comes up a lot.
What is the difference? and where are they located?
A. Mass Air Sensor has to be in the intake airflow path outside the Throttle Body location to measure the Airflow rate by a % sample method..
This has huge control of fueling requirements by sending it's signal to the PCM..
.
B. MAP-T Sensor is located by projecting it's Sensor tip into the Intake Manifold, at some location.
It registers the Vacuum level and has nearly same huge control of fueling as a MAF does but by a different method.
.
What is the T?
It measures the air temperature in the Manifold and sends that value to the PCM as a separate function. It's part of the MAP.
Note: The PCM does not know what the ambient is or running temperatures are unless this Sensor and Coolant Sensing takes place to set Fueling levels for cold and hot starts. Timing and Idle Parameters are needed every time the engine is started under all conditions and is detected at the time the PCM is powered up for starting along with the fuel pump..
Ambient Sensor is also included as a sanity check for all three that must agree within a reasonable +/- Limit, for cold starts.
This Sensor is located either in the front area of the Radiator or the Passenger side Mirror housing.
.
F150 uses MAP-T.
Mustangs use Mass Air.
The PCM Programs are different for each..
Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Does the MAP-T require any maintenance. On my older trucks, that had a MAF, I would occasionally (every year or so) take it out and give it a quick cleaning with a MAF sensor cleaner spray.
Some say MAP sensors don't need any maintenance, others say they had good results after cleaning them with MAF spray. Take your pick.
My thought is it won't hurt to clean off any debris as an attempt to alleviate minor drivability issues that might arise after the years/miles accumulate.
