Default Low oil

1487 miles went to town tonight truck sat for 1.5 hours in the parking lot. hopped in it started it and got the low oil screen.
turned it off checked the dip stick and there is almost no oil in the truck!
Got under it oil filter is fine, no oil anywhere on the engine top or bottom that i can see and no spots in my driveway.
started it back up no low oil screen.
did they just not put enough in it at the factory?
maybe there is a leak I can’t see.
my closest Ford is 45 mins away so I’m unfortunately going to take it to a local oil place tomorrow.
just looking for thoughts or anyone who has experienced this.
I just instantly went into panic mode prob over reacting but what the heck!

I'd chalk it up to an odd alert.

In today's generation of motor designs, one cannot turn off the truck and check oil and have even a remotely accurate indication.

People have checked oil at the gas station and propptly wanted to add oil right there at the pump becaus oil had not drained back and they haven't been educated on how to check oil in the modern engines. If the light comes on again, then be concerned with low oil or a bad sensor.
Check the oil after the motor has been sitting a while.

I had the same thing happened on my 5.0 at 2000 miles my oil level was at the bottom of hash marks on dipstick. The dealer said there was a tsb for this and it required a module reprogram. After they did it no more low oil messages.

Thank you all for the quick responses! I let it sit for 9 hours and checked it this morning before going to work. It was right above the bottom hole. I’ll definitely contact Ford and see about that tsb.

Just FYI...when my '16 was delivered new it was down about a pint from the factory.

Did you check yours when you bought it?

Decades ago I worked for a Ford dealership. You would be surprised at the number of new vehicles that come in with low oil levels. The dealership is paid to perform a pre-delivery inspection. Maybe they missed checking your oil. I always check the oil level on a new vehicle.

I did not. Honestly did not even think about it and I kick myself for it now.
I’m going to add some after work today.

I had a theory on the last trucks they were under filled at the factory, and that was one of the main reasons people with Coyotes were seeing lower than normal use initially as that compounded the normal use durring break-in. Others have said the same. My buds truck he checked at 300 miles or so and sure enough it was down about a quart or so, filled, and had tsb done and after few thousand miles it was fine and in range for use on what is still technically a high performance engine in a heavy vehicle. Same for my truck ('19 5.0), I think something is fubar at Ford factory when filling b/c others have checked as well and seen varying levels brand spanking new off the dealer floor. Stang owners have reported similar findings with Coyote also. Ford QC lol....
